Masters Volleyball Academy trains and educates athletes ages 12 and under through 18 years of age in the sport of volleyball. We are currently seeking grants, corporate sponsors, individual sponsors and/or donations to support athletes in need, and towards our dream of owning our own volleyball facility to fulfill that goal.
MVA was founded in 2009 by Cary Lyon and his daughter, Chelsea Lyon Mead of Phoenix, Maryland. Beginning with just four teams - currently with 10 teams, MVA has become one of the top volleyball programs in the region and is one of the most sought after programs for players aspiring to compete at the collegiate level.
Often, there are athletes who wish to train with MVA but do not have the financial means to pay for the program. MVA is solely supported by the club fees collected from participants and their parents or guardians. MVA is in the process of establishing a "Scholarship Foundation" for athlete's in need so they are not denied this valuable resource. As well, we are establishing the “Facility Foundation” to provide these athletes and MVA a “home of their own”.
We are currently seeking grants, corporate sponsors, individual sponsors and/or donations to support some needy athletes. If you or your company would like to contribute to our Scholarship Foundation, or to our “Facility Foundation”, please contact Executive Director, Cary Lyon at 410-303-9921, CaryLyon@verizon.net, or simply send your donation – indicating which Foundation you would like your funds applied - payable to Masters Volleyball Academy, 103 Fox Haven Court, Reisterstown, MD 21136.
Thank you for your consideration,

Dear Former MVA Family,
The 2015 MVA season is around the corner and we miss you already. Some of you have been a part of our family for so long, we can’t imagine the season without you! We are organizing an MVA Alumni tournament this season where the girls that have recently graduated can come back to play some of the current teams in the older age brackets. We will be communicating more details on this event as the season goes on and we all get beyond the holiday scramble. With your help we believe that we can make this MVA Alumni event the beginning of a great tradition and we hope to see you there!
In the past few years, we’ve had many MVA parents ask us about opportunities for them to give back to the sport. After much discussion and a lot of thought, we have decided to start a scholarship fund set up to help certain athletes play our beloved sport. We believe that we can provide the opportunity for those who are otherwise financially restricted from playing. Every year we have a small amount of scholarship funding budgeted into our annual Club spending, but it’s not enough to make a real impact. In addition to this budgeted spending, you’re aware of our fundraising efforts and how much they can help players who lack the resources to play club volleyball. We’ve considered several options to increase our ability to help athletes. Raising our prices is an option, but the last thing we want to do is further burden existing players who may not be able to pay the extra.
So how can we do more, and how do we implement an MVA Scholarship program that makes a difference in helping young women earn a chance at a college scholarship? Well we believe that this year, we have a place to start. We have a few girls with the potential and talent for earning college scholarships, if they can increase their skill and display it for some college coaches. If they fail to earn a scholarship, they will struggle to attend college at all. To these girls, volleyball is one of the only ways they can gain a chance for a higher education.
Every year we see deserving families struggling to provide the financial opportunity for athletes to play volleyball. The perfect example of this is one player we met a few months ago. She is the child of a single mother who lost her job while battling cancer, and we were touched by her story so much that it inspired this letter.
MVA will continue to provide our annual budgeted money for the scholarships and fund raising as we have in the past, but this new Scholarship fund will rely heavily on contributions by YOU, our MVA family.
Mission Statement
MVA was born out of a desire to care for each player as a unique individual in their physical, mental and spiritual development and we hope that with this scholarship fund, we can impact more athletes threw the game we love.
The MVA Scholarship Fund will be an annual fund that sponsors financially struggling athletes to play volleyball for MVA.
MVA Commitment
-
MVA is committed to continuing our annual scholarship budget and fund raising money efforts dedicated to scholarship players.
-
MVA will manage the Scholarship Fund and fully disclose funding totals, keeping names anonymous for privacy.
-
MVA will provide full transparency regarding how MVA has disbursed Scholarship funds
-
MVA will distribute success stories and updates every month to Scholarship donors, so that each donor knows the difference they’re making
-
We want to provide opportunity, but we also want these players to earn their Scholarship, just as they would have to earn a College Scholarship. In the spirit of this, MVA is committed to holding student athletes to a 3.0 GPA or higher; helping them fulfill community service hours so that they can reach out to others in need. Each scholarship athlete will write an update about his or her accomplishments on and off the volleyball court so that we can share with you the impact that your contribution is making.
Thank you for your consideration in donating to our scholarship fund. You have no idea what your help means to us and to some of our athletes. If you wish to donate to support needy athletes or if your company would like to contribute to our Scholarship Foundation, please go online to www.mastersvolleyballacademy.com , or contact Executive Director, Cary Lyon, at (410) 303-9921, CaryLyon@verizon.net, or or simply send your donation payable to Masters Volleyball Academy.
